PGA HOPE Charlotte-Pineville
Toptracer CTP Leagues Overview
@the Pine (First Tee Learning Center Pineville)
Address: 10401 Cadillac St, Pineville, NC 28134
Team Structure All leagues are played in two‑person teams. Each team must include at least one PGA HOPE Alumni Veteran. The second team member may be a family member, friend, or a veteran/active‑duty service member who has not yet participated in the HOPE program. If you need a partner, indicate this in the registration and we will pair you with another participant.
Closest to the Pin League Format: Individual competition on designated par‑3 holes. Each player takes three attempts per turn, and the team’s best shot is recorded for the leaderboard. Distances will vary from 50 to 200 yards. Participants can connect with the app to qualify for global leaderboards. Hole‑in‑one opportunities are always in play.
Approach Challenge League Format: Primary team competition counting toward league standings. Two person teams play a selected nine shot approach format from multiple fixed yardages. Scoring is cumulative based on distance from the pin; for example, if your ball finishes 25 yards away, you earn 25 points. Penalties for missing the pin add points to your total, and a lower overall score is better. Teams will play two rounds on the same nine hole course, and all players must complete the rounds. The Team score is calculated by adding the total scores of both players together, and the lowest combined score wins the weekly matchup.

Toptracer FAQs
Toptracer Setup to Sign in
1
We strongly recommend all league players download the Toptracer Range app (iOS or Android) and create a profile before arriving at The Pine. While you can sign in as a "Guest" at the bay, the app is the only way to officially track your Closest to the Pin (CTP) and Approach Challenge Leaderboard, save your session history, and sync your scores directly to the league leaderboard. Logging in ensures every shot counts toward your standings.

How does Toptracer work?
2
Toptracer is a camera-based tracking system that uses CMOS sensors to "see" and map the flight of a golf ball in real-time. Unlike radar systems (like Trackman) which "ping" the ball, Toptracer uses high-speed cameras typically mounted on a range's roof to scan the hitting area.
How do I track my scores and join the leaderboard?
3
Players must download the Toptracer Range app and create a full profile, including birth year and gender, to be eligible for leaderboards. Once at the range, they scan the QR code on the bay monitor to sync their session.
What happens if the system doesn't track my shot?
4
Most leagues implement a "Legit Re-hit Rule." If a ball is hit properly but the technology fails to track it (often due to lighting transitions or heavy rain), players typically agree to a no-penalty re-hit.
Is there a minimum height or distance for a shot to count?
5
Yes. Toptracer usually requires a ball to reach at least 10 feet in the air and travel roughly 30 yards to be tracked accurately. This often leads to the "Double Duff Rule," where players get a limited number of "duffs" before taking a penalty.
Real-World Conditions & Tracking impacts?
6
Real-World Conditions: Why playing outdoors with active wind and weather elements provides a more authentic competitive experience than a simulator.
Premium Flight Data: How using standard range balls instead of limited-flight balls ensures your Toptracer numbers reflect your true on-course yardages.
The Dusk Transition: What to expect during the brief "lighting gap" at sunset when cameras recalibrate, and how to handle a 5-minute tracking pause.
Weather Interference: Guidelines for play during heavy precipitation, including when tracking may become intermittent due to vision-blocking rain or snow.
